Hill country stays cool

Nuwara Eliya's daytime highs stay between 19°C and 23°C all year, a welcome change from the coast.

Driest in the dry zone: June to August

The Cultural Triangle and Yala see their lowest rainfall in the middle of the year, though it is also the hottest time inland.

South-west coast: January to March

Colombo and Galle are at their driest in the first quarter of the year, with warm sunny days.

October & November are the wettest

Rainfall peaks across most of the island in the inter-monsoon months, which falls outside our departure months.

Figures are long-term averages, mostly the 1991–2020 climate normals published by NOAA / WMO, with Kandy from published climate averages. Where a destination has no weather station of its own we show the nearest long-record station: Anuradhapura for the Cultural Triangle and Hambantota for Yala. Real weather varies from year to year, so please treat this as a guide.
